Aetna, a leading health insurer, is offering a plan for people who can’t afford a full-time job or a high-deductible policy that can cover most medical expenses.
Aetna said its plan, the Life Insurance Plan, is designed to give consumers the flexibility to make decisions about their health care needs when they are not able to work or earn a high income.
The plan offers coverage to adults with incomes below $50,000, according to a company blog post.
The company is offering it at the same time as it rolls out its new Medicare Advantage plans.
Health insurers like Aetas insurance plan have faced mounting pressure in recent years from younger and healthier Americans who want to keep coverage or at least to keep some of their coverage, and some lawmakers have been pushing for a shift to an “essential health benefits” (EHB) program.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) required insurers to offer plans with health benefits and deductibles that meet those standards.
The ACA also required employers to cover some health care costs.
While the ACA mandates coverage, employers do not have to offer a plan that covers all health care services and all health benefits, according a 2016 report by the Kaiser Family Foundation.
It is also the case that some employers offer a broad range of benefits, including dental care, mental health, vision care, and prescription drugs, the report said.
But those programs have not always been so popular with consumers.
According to a report by Cigna, a health insurer that has more than 1.3 million enrollees, a substantial number of enrollees do not currently receive coverage for health care because they do not meet eligibility requirements, and insurers that do offer a “full-service” plan with the coverage they offer have also struggled to find the right balance between providing high-quality coverage and covering those who are unable to afford it.
A spokeswoman for Aetans insurance plan said the company has not yet made the plan available for purchase.
“While we are focused on offering a better plan for the most part, we are working with our partners to provide our customers with an enhanced plan that can help meet their needs,” the spokeswoman said in an email.AETans insurance offers a $500 deductible for the first month, then increases to $1.5, then to $2,000 for a month.
After that, it increases to a maximum of $3,500 per month.
For those who do not receive coverage through their employers, Aetanas plan offers “flexible benefits,” including coverage for elective surgeries, dental care and emergency care, as well as a number of other benefits.
For example, if you are diagnosed with a serious illness, Aets insurance could cover your bills up to $150,000 in out-of-pocket costs, the company said.
The plan has also raised premiums.
Aetanins plans have been offering the LifeInsurance Plan for a few years.
A spokesperson for Aets said the policy would go live on Sept. 1.
